4x4 rental in Morocco

The 4x4 is the most over-rented category in Morocco. You genuinely need one only if you leave the tarmac — dune tracks, high Atlas villages, the wild southern coast. For everything else, including the desert road, a city car does the job at half the price.

When it is genuinely needed

The Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga tracks around Merzouga and M’Hamid. Driving in sand is a skill, and getting a rental stuck is expensive.

Unpaved approaches to villages in the Aït Bouguemez valley, around Toubkal, or in the Jbel Saghro.

Check the contract

Many Moroccan contracts exclude off-road driving outright, 4x4 or not. If your route includes tracks, get the agency to confirm in writing before you set off — that is exactly what the message field on the request is for.

Mileage: a 4x4 exists to cover distance. A 250 km/day cap on a southern loop is unrealistic. Take unlimited.
